Abstract
Social media algorithms are designed to maximize user engagement, often influencing mental health, behavior, and decision-making patterns. This paper examines the psychological effects of personalized content recommendation systems, using computational psychometric analysis to assess their impact on users’ emotions, social interactions, and cognitive biases. We analyze data from multiple platforms, discussing the role of reinforcement learning in shaping online experiences. The paper also explores potential regulatory measures and ethical considerations to mitigate the negative psychological consequences of algorithm-driven content consumption.
